President Henry B Eyring

The Message

President Eyring taught that the Lord’s promise, “Fear not, I am with thee,” does not mean that our challenges will be taken away. Trials are part of our mortal experience, but the Savior knows our griefs, carries our sorrows, and promises to strengthen and help us through them.

He also taught that the Lord often fulfills His promise to comfort His children through other people. When we notice someone who is struggling, reach out, encourage, listen, or simply show kindness, we can become part of the Lord’s answer to another person’s prayer.

Read the summary of the message and the Try This at Home ideas with your family. Then say: “Let’s choose one way our family can help someone feel that the Lord is with them this week.”

Try This at Home

Be the Answer
During family prayer, ask Heavenly Father to help you notice someone who needs comfort. During the week, pay attention to names or faces that come to mind—and act when they do.

Strengthen Someone Who Serves
Choose someone who is serving others—a missionary, Church leader, teacher, caregiver, neighbor, or family member. Tell them specifically what you appreciate about what they are doing.

Make “Fear Not” Your Family Reminder
When someone in the family is worried or having a difficult day, gently remind each other: “Fear not, I am with thee.”Talk about what that promise means when the problem doesn’t immediately go away.

Find It in the Scriptures
Read Mosiah 18:8–9 together, the passage President Eyring used about bearing one another’s burdens, mourning with those who mourn, and comforting those who need comfort. Ask: What would this look like in our family this week?

Choose Your Own
Choose another part of President Eyring’s message that your family would like to live together this week.

Make a Plan
Once your family chooses an idea, decide when you will do it.
“We’ll text Sister Jones after dinner tonight.”
“We’ll pray about whom to help during family prayer.”
“We’ll encourage our missionary when we write on Sunday.”

Check Back In

At the end of the week, talk as a family about what you noticed. Did anything change? What was challenging? How did helping someone else make you feel? Did anyone help or comfort you? What did you learn about being one of the ways the Lord keeps His promise, “Fear not, I am with thee”?

No grading. No guilt. Just notice what happened.
